The methodology of combining legal hadiths according to Imam al-Shafi’i and its impact on venerating the Prophetic Sunnah, as seen in his book Ikhtilaf al-Hadith
يتناول هذا البحث دراسة منهج الإمام الشافعي في الجمع بين الأحاديث، وأثر هذا المنهج في تعظيم السنة النبوية، من خلال كتابه «اختلاف الحديث». وتكمن أهمية البحث في إبراز الأسلوب العلمي الرصين الذي اتبعه الإمام الشافعي للحفاظ على النصوص النبوية واستيعاب التباين بينها، مما يعكس حرصه على تقديم صورة متكاملة ومتوازنة للسنة النبوية. وقد اعتمدت في البحث المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، من خلال دراسة نماذج مختارة توضّح كيفية جمع الإمام الشافعي للأحاديث المختلفة وعرضها بشكل متسق. أظهرت النتائج أن الإمام الشافعي كان حريصًا على تقديم الجمع بين الأحاديث المتعلقة بالموضوع الواحد – إن كان الجمع ممكنًا – وهو ما غلب على منهجه في دفع التعارض، ما يعكس فهم الإمام الشافعي العميق للسنة النبوية وأهمية الحفاظ على نصوصها ضمن إطار علمي متوازن.

Abstract
This research examines Imam al-Shafi’i’s methodology in reconciling hadiths and its impact on venerating the Prophetic Sunnah, as demonstrated in his book «Ikhtilaf al-Hadith» The research’s significance lies in highlighting the rigorous scholarly approach Imam al-Shafi’i employed to preserve prophetic texts and reconcile their apparent contradictions, reflecting his commitment to presenting a comprehensive and balanced picture of the Sunnah. The research utilizes a descriptive-analytical methodology, examining selected examples that illustrate Imam al-Shafi’i’s method of reconciling and presenting diverse hadiths in a coherent manner. The findings reveal that Imam al-Shafi’i was keen on reconciling hadiths related to a single topic -whenever possible- a characteristic that dominated his approach to resolving apparent contradictions. This reflects Imam al-Shafi’i’s profound understanding of the Prophetic Sunnah and the importance of preserving its texts within a balanced scholarly framework.
